" I DANCE MY WAY THROUGH LIFE, FOR THE SELF AND FOR THE SPECTACLE "

Makhosi was born in 1977 in South Africa. From his early childhood Makhosi was exposed to dance and drama through local groups in his community. Later in his teenage years he was himself involved in local dance and drama performance in different events. After completing high school Makhosi auditioned for Brett Bailey’s Thirdworld Bunfight Theatre Company and was professionally working full time for this company as an actor, dancer and drummer. While working with T.W.B. Makhosi received training in drama and more dance styles from Africa and he later choreographed some dances for the company. The company has performed in different venues in South Africa and Europe.

He thereafter took a professional training course in contemporary dance, drama, mime, ballet, improvisation and dance creation with Rhodes University’s First Physical Theatre Company, which later lead him to start his own dance initiative. Together with his sister he taught dance to school children. Makhosi has also performed solo dance work at the FNB Vita Dance Umdudo as well as collaborated with other dancers from his Grahamstown community.

Makhosi later moved to Sweden where he is currently residing with wife and kids. He is working as a dance teacher for the Cultural school in Sunne. He also travels to different places in the province of värmland giving dance and drum workshops to different age groups and schools. He has been invited in to perform in different occasions like private parties and cultural festivals, charming and capturing his audiences with his pure entertaining energy, gracious but yet electrifying afro movements.

Makhosi, as an artist draws inspiration from his African culture as well as life itself. He strives to forge his own dance vocabulary through going beyond his personal boundaries and exploring different ways of moving and merging together with what he already knows. To Makhosi dance is also a spiritual quest which leads to self realisation. A journey by oneself to oneself.

Other than stage performing, Makhosi shows his artistry in the kitchen as he is a good cook with a good imagination and love for good food. He took an A la carte cook education at Lernia, Sweden. Thus he works as cook at Tossebergsklätten’s restaurant which he runs together with his wife as a summer season’s restaurant.
